If it has been over 12 weeks since you mailed the return, you can contact the IRS to find out the status of return. Otherwise the IRS will contact you by mail if they need any further information. See the IRS FAQ's for amended tax returns - https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x/amended-return-frequently-asked-q...
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 4 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent.
Or you can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment
Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area. See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
Did you print, sign, date and mail the amended return, Form 1040X, since amended returns cannot be e-filed? Are you using the IRS website to check the status of the amended tax return - https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x/wheres-my-amended-return-1
Yes it has been going through letting me know that it is being processed and now it says information don't match

Mines just said the same thing , it was saying received on April 25th & is being processed now when I checked it this morning it’s saying my information doesn’t match their information in their system. I don’t know what that means
It just means your return is between departments ... when it lands somewhere and they update your status then a new message ... patience will be needed.
Mine said adjusted yesterday now it says doesn’t match records,,,could that mean they’re mailing my check
All amended returns have a check mailed ... direct deposit is not an option. And if it doesn't match then they may have adjusted or changed something ... you will need to wait for the explanation letter or check to come to know for sure ... again patience will be required.
At first it was Letting me check my Amendent return now its say my information don’t match they records
Whatever happened did you receive your refund in how long did it take
@Layla05 It's best to continue to keep an eye on it through the IRS website.
You can also call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Their operations have currently changed. They are keeping everyone up to date on their website.
When calling the IRS do NOT choose Option 1.
Choose Option 2 after you choose the language.
Then Press 1
Then Press 3
Then Press 2, it will then transfer you to an agent.
When the web site suddenly has no info that simply means your return is being moved between departments and is not currently in the system ... this is normal ... try back every couple of days for further updates.
Mine are doing the same thing, its been 16 weeks since I filed, now the last 4 days its telling me my information doesn't match. How long do they normally take to update when it reaches a new dept?
Since Covid hit last year amended returns can take 6 months or much longer ... some 2019 returns took over a year. Just check the IRS site once a week for a possible progress update :
Hello, just wondering if this ever got resolved, I ammended a tax return and it was showing as being accepted and this morning I checked and it says my Information doesn’t match when it’s the same information I’ve been using. Thank you
Hang tight ... that is normal as the return goes thru the processing pipeline ... so all you can do is check again every couple of days to see if it has finished it's journey.
Did you ever get your refund ?
mine is doing the same now for my 2021 tax year
and I filed my amended taxes back in feb so frustrating
@Esmeralda209 You amended your 2021 return in February? That sounds like you must have amended before your original return was processed. And how did you amend? Are you sure you amended correctly using a Form 1040X? Do you have a copy of a Form 1040X that you submitted?
That can lead to extra confusion and extra delays. Going forward--NEVER amend a tax return until the original return has been fully processed.
