Edited: The IRS is now accepting e-filed returns for the 2016 tax year; however, some state Department of Revenue's have not yet begun to accept e-filed returns.
The IRS will start processing returns on 1/23/2017. They may accept/reject earlier, but processing will be delayed until the date they "open for business".
They rejected my efile do to the wrong Agi on 1/14 . It was fixed 20 mins and resent will there be a delay
The IRS takes some test returns before their official open date, which is Jan 23. But they don't start processing refunds until the start date.
Also, if your return was taken in a test batch early, and rejected and you send it back, it is not clear whether it will be looked at again early because it was in the test batch, or if the resubmitted return won't be looked at until after the 23rd.
Mines was accepted the 12th as well. I have dependents so I'm expecting a delay ..
Accepted on 1/13/17 but still pending. Ca state return accepted on the same date and I received my refund on 1/21/17.
Edited since the IRS is now accepting; however, some states have NOT started accepting e-filed returns yet (seems like NY is one of those @Buttonz per my experience and other things I am reading.
@Cbraswell45 ......did you have EIC or CTC on your return? Has anyone in KY been approved with their state return? I filed several days ago, federal was accepted immediately, state of KY is still pending, it's never happened like that before, usually state accepts right after federal
@Cbraswell45 The state have increases this year in the amount time that efiler's, often mailed returns. Be patient and it will come. Better than norhing with NO experience.
I sent mine in on January 3rd, they just accepted mine on the 12th I'm expecting my federal to hit the bank anywhere from Jan 23-feb5th
Just so you are aware, the IRS will not begin processing e-filed returns until 1/23/2017 and refunds for 8 out of 10 people are expected within 21 days of acceptance or the beginning of processing. If you claimed the Earned Income Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, the IRS is legally not allowed to release the refund until February 15, 2017.
Oh so if I claimed the earned income credit it 100% won't be here before the 15th of feb?
Correct, it won't even be RELEASED until then. They are expecting it to hit bank accounts the last week of February (due to the Presidents Day holiday). This was new legislation that was passed by congress with the PATH act.
