What should I do if I receive a refund more than expected?

Last year, after e-filing my tax for 2019, I found that I missed something. So I sent my amendation to IRS then. Before the amendation, I owed IRS $1 (but I didn't pay it). After the amendation, IRS should return a refund of $1270 to me.

Recently, I received the refund check from IRS with the wrong amount: $1271 plus some interest. (I also checked the IRS online tax transcript, which shows the same wrong amount.)

What should I do now? Should I call IRS or directly send the check back to IRS?

for the $1 difference, I would do nothing.  You can send the check back, but that would likely result in you having to wait months to get a new check which likely would be the same amount as the previous one.

IRS corrected your tax return.

You are now done with the IRS.

Why would you send money back ??
