I did my return through Turbo Tax and asked me to mail out the form once it was done to the Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service at Austin TX 73301 but it doesn't give me a P.O. Box number. I've been tracking my package and says it got to the Post Office and is available for pickup but who will pick it up? I want to know the P.O. box or exact address it needs to get to.
Where to MAIL (Send) your tax return. It depends on which state you live in and which forms, you can find the address here: https://www.irs.gov/uac/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment Click on your State and the different Forms and address where they should be sent are displayed. The address usually is Different if you Owe or are Receiving a Refund.
Click on the Blue link in my answer below to find where to Mail your Federal Taxes. I update the link to the IRS site.
Pretty sure the Post Office in Austin TX knows how to get mail to the IRS office in Austin.
Did yours ever get delivered? My certified mail has been in transit for over a week now, and still nothing.

Many IRS addresses are just like that one...no actual street address just the city, state, zip with the IRS name on it. They must be the only one with that particular zip code.
Doc5108...stop being so aggressive. You are incorrect. The link you keep repeatedly referring to has exactly the same address listed that the OP referenced. You obviously haven't LOOKED at the link you keep repeatedly referring everyone to. Please just butt out, you have nothing useful to add.
I have the same problem, it says ready for pick up. The mail I received from the IRS shows their address as Austin, TX 73301 saying that the complete address will pop up on the post office computer screen. Did they receive yours? I don’t know what to do.

The US Post Office will deliver the envelope to the IRS address and location as shown in the IRS website for your state - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment
If you use a private delivery service, such as UPS, FedEx or DHL then the physical address must be used. See this IRS website for private delivery service IRS addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/submission-processing-center-street-addresses-for-private-delivery-service-pds
@doru2906_ What did you do? I sent mine also and it’s saying it’s at the post office waiting to be picked up.
@Chpop Did the irs ever get it? I just sent mine out and it’s saying it’s at the post office waiting to be picked up.
@Brendac yes! Give it some time and it will say delivered to the IRS mailing front desk/mail department.
Thank you soo much!!! It says it arrived today. I didn’t know if i had to send it again lol
OP did it get resolved? I sent mine out on friday and today it says it’s available for pickup at Austin,TX how does that work? Do i have to send it again?
@Mcvanvorce The advice was to give it a few days and it should say it arrived there. The IRS provides the addresses for mailing a return according to the state you live in. If the address is verified and is correct, it should arrive shortly. Please review below.

I sent my amended return certified mail to the IRS in Austin, TX on April 2nd. I mailed it from the Dallas area which is a 3 hour drive from Austin. On April 3rd tracking showed it was picked up in Dallas. April 5th tracking showed it arrived at a Austin postal facility. April 9th tracking showed it was in route to final destination. Today is May 13th and the postal service tracking has had no updates since April 9th.
I decided to try sending it again on May 6th. Tracking shows it was picked up on May 7th in Dallas area and is currently “in route”. Again today is May 13th and there have been no tracking updates since May 7th.
This is all very odd since it’s not like my letter is traveling across the country. I understand it taking 12 weeks or whatever to process once they receive it but the postal service should be able to take a letter to a location that is a three hour drive in less then a freaking month.
im planning to contact the post master for the dallas area and the Austin area. I’m concerned that since these letters were addressed to the IRS that postal workers k ow they likely contain personal info (social security, name/addy etc) and are stealing the info this the letters never arrive.
It depends.
It may also be due to the fact that the IRS is not processing paper filed returns due to Covid-19 social distancing.
Please see the link below for updates to the departments that you can currently contact within the IRS.
You can try contacting your postal service as well if you have not received confirmation of the tracking that you have already paid for.
Hello OP,
My USPS tracking changed from "Available for pickup" to " Additional steps - Redelivery Requested" and they will return my packet on July 16th, if no one collects it. And I cannot even enter the new address as it is not allowed for IRS. Is that normal. Pretty worried about that
I have the same issues, sent by mail my return and just shows "ready for pickup" in Austin. Seems some people on this thread had theirs delivered and some haven't....... this tax stuff causes enough anxiety as it is....love how each step always seems to add more issues.
I have the exact same issue.
To people for whom it was resolved: how many days did it take from available for pickup to delivered?
Some IRS processing offices are unmanned and if there is no one to accept delivery, the package will be returned to you.
