The 1095-A reconciles advance payments of the premium tax credit on insurance received from Health Insurance Marketplace.  Many people claimed an advance credit which lowered their monthly health insurance premium, based on their estimated income.

Form 1095-A is used to complete Form 8962 and reconcile advance payments of the premium tax credit or claim the premium tax credit on your tax return.

If your income ended up being greater than what you estimated and you got an advance credit for your health insurance, the reconciliation can reduce your refund because you have to pay back the difference.

First ... you MUST enter the 1095-A on your return ... if you fail to do so then your return will be stopped mid processing and you will get a letter which will require you to recompute the return adding in that form ... so not putting it in will delay your return for months.
