What do I do if I already filed my taxes and claimed the recovery rebate, but then I received my stimulus check?

You must be asking about a 2020 or 2021 tax return since there is no recovery rebate credit on a 2022 return.  Lots of people made mistakes with the recovery rebate credit.  The IRS looks for those mistakes.  If you said you did not get the stimulus check and have the credit on line 30 of your Form 1040, the IRS will reduce your refund.  They know if you received it.    You do not need to amend.  The IRS corrects that mistake for you.

Yes, Xmasbaby0 is quite correct, the IRS will be reconciling your return with their records of the stimulus payments sent. If there is a discrepancy, they will make the correction and send you a written notice of the difference and the change. They will not call.

If you have moved and mailing issues were the reason your stimulus was delayed, you can also see all notices in your IRS online account.
I highly recommend that everyone create an online account on the IRS website to verify the status of returns, payments, refunds,  stimulus information and so much more.
