The IRS sends CP23 to notify you that due to a discrepancy between estimated tax credits claimed on your return and the amounts the IRS posted to your tax account. Did you indeed make estimated tax payments (other than normal withholdings)?
Did you have estimated payments suggest for 2018 by the 2017 program and then did not make those payments ? If so when you completed the 2018 return those payments were brought forward and you were supposed to review them for accuracy and if needed make corrections. So if you did not make all the payments listed and you did not correct it prior to filing then the IRS caught the error.
so if it is an error on my part then can we just amend it to make it accurate and not owe anything but they amount we paid to begin with after i did the taxes? I contacted support on here but they aren't open right now, ill get a call back tomorrow.....
There is nothing to amend for the IRS if you agree with their assessment but if you wish to amend your return in the TT program to correct it please do ... just do not mail anything to the IRS as it could confuse them.
And FYI you owe more ... do the amendment and see if the IRS is correct.
Who made a mistake? If you made a user error and did not enter income or entered something incorrectly. the accuracy guarantee does not help with that.
