I started this year's tax return and downloaded the prior year's info, including carryover amounts from the prior year's return (which at that point was a loss, so applicable to this year). I have amended last year's return, and no longer have a carryover loss. Can I fix this easily, or is it simpler to throw out the current year's return and start over? I want to re-set my Schedule D so that there is no carryover showing.
It's easy to fix. In the Search box type "capital loss carryover" (without the quotes), then click the link that says "Jump to capital loss carryover."
The first screen says "Do you know your capital loss carryover amounts?" Select "No, I'll enter new carryover amounts now because my 2022 info has changed," then click Continue.
On the next screen, that shows your 2022 carryover amounts, just click Continue.
The next screen says "Tell us your capital loss carryover amounts from 2022." Enter zero in all four boxes (don't leave them blank) and click Continue.
