Turbotax 2024 will not print: STILL NOT SOLVED AT 2/2/25

I've been using Turbotax for at least a decade.  I've got a very simple return that is ready to print.  Turbotax Premier 2024 is not letting me print.  There is no problem with my Canon printer.  I can print from Excel, for example.  My iMac operating system and Turbotax says my Turbotax application is up to date.

Update 1-27-25: By the way, I have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on my machine and I have had a session open during the failed print jobs.

Update 2: 1-27-25: Is there anybody that I can escalate the question to?

Update 3:It looks like there's an [phone number removed] number.  I'll try that on Friday when I get some free time.

Update 4: eight hundred - four hundred forty-six, eight thousand, eight hundred forty-eight.

Update 5: Still NOT SOLVED.  Opened Turbotax.  Checked for program updates.  Print job seems to start normally.  Got a "boop" sound as the print window closed.  Nothing prints to my Canon printer (which prints fine to other programs).  No pdf print file created.  STILL NOT SOLVED.  Will call the 800 number this weekend to try to get help.  Apparently Intuit published defective software.

Update 6: Sunday 2/2/25: Spent an hour on the phone with the Turbotax "Help" Desk.  Determined that they could not help me.  My new best friend Sam assigned an issue number (154 26 40 868)and said he would escalate the issue to "Tier 2".

The cherry on top of the brown smelly sundae was that I almost immediately got an email saying that my case was CLOSED.  So I called back in AGAIN to Turbotax "Help" Desk to confirm that the issue was still open.  Spent another 30 minutes on the phone to confirm that the issue was still open.  Was disconnected.  Spent another 30 minutes on the phone (second try) to confirm that the issue was still open.

Found that TURBOTAX HAD IN FACT CLOSED THE ISSUE.  Asked a Turbotax "Help" Desk person to reopen the issue.  She said she couldn't do it. That only my new best friend Sam could do that.

Still Turbotax 2024 for Mac  will not print.  Vaporware.

I am having the same issue. Everything is updated and I have the full version Acrobat installed, but can only get the program to preview the returns, not print. Clicking the "Print Returns" button shows it's prepping it to print, then it makes a sound and disappears. Restarted system a few times, cleared all the caches and nothing changes.

Turbotax will only print to PDF onto your hard drive.

Nope.

I've checked the usual iMac folders (Recents, Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc.).

There is no pdf file or any other file format.

If you are right, where would Turbotax have printed the return?

And why in the world would Turbotax not have given me the alternative to print to my Canon printer?

Update 1/28/25: Turbotax software updated.  Adobe Acrobat application open.  Excel prints to my Canon printer; no problem.  Turbotax still does not print to my Canon and no pdf file created.  Will spend time on the phone with the Turbotax help line on Friday.

I am having the same problem.  Desktop Turbotax will not let me print my return or save it as PDF.  HP Printer.  I just get the spinning wheel.  When I try "force quit"  it says "TurboTax 2024 not responding"  I've tried selecting just the 1040 form itself to print...same problem.  Can't save as PDF, or print it.

I'm assuming it's a program glitch and a forthcoming TurboTax update will fix it. Can't believe something as simple as printing (not contingent on tax form changes) would be an issue with any release. Basic operations if you ask me...

Work-around until Intuit fixes the print function.

1)  Use the "Save to PDF" option in the "File" menu of the desktop program and save a copy of your returns to location you can easily find on your computer.

2)  Open the PDF of your returns in your PDF reader program (acrobat, Preview, etc.) and use that program to print to your local printer.

Worked for me.

Exactly my experience. Still no printing.

When I started down this rabbit hole, I would get a little "boop" sound when the print job pretended to finish (without printing).  The last few times, I didn't get the "boop", but maybe I'm losing my hearing.

I got some funky problems similar to yours.  I got errors related to "failure to update system" and other errors.  Shutting down Turbotax, shutting down my iMac and letting it sleep overnight seemed to sure those other funky problems. But still no printing.

I was surprised the “Save to PDF” function actually saved a copy of my returns just like printing them as a PDF would have. Program still needs to be fixed so you don’t have to do the workaround.

Thanks for trying, but it didn't work for me.

Went File> Print (from the Turbotax menu).

Got iMac spinning beachball of death.

Waited 10 minutes while spinning beachball of death spun.

Gave up and forced shut down.

Tried printing again with the same result — no print file, no print output.

Still it is very helpful to know that I'm not the only one with the problem; Turbotax like so many software vendors ship partially functional product hoping that nobody notices.  (Who is printing returns on January 28?)

1/29/2025 Having exactly same issue. Will not print. Print dialog never appears and make the boop sound. Reinstalled TT and did all the other jump through hoops wasting my time. It finally did print a PDF for me so I print a form I needed to fulfill a business obligation. Have been using this software for over a decade without issue and this is just unacceptable intuit., this is not your first rodeo. How about you release an update that fixes the print issues ASAP.

Try this until they figure out what's wrong with their software. Open acrobat app then try to save your file as a PDF, print from the PDF. It worked for me...

Thanks for confirming there is a problem.  (Still a problem at Thursday 1/30 early am.)

My Apple iMac setup somehow did not create a pdf (or if it did I couldn't find the pdf in the usual places).

If you have any tips on how to create a pdf (or where to look for it), I'd appreciate it.

I'm taking a day off Friday to spend "quality time" with the Turbotax help desk to 1) get them to admit there is a problem and 2) get them to commit to a date by when they will get it fixed.

I couldn't create a pdf until I actually opened the adobe acrobat application. So have acrobat app open before trying to create the pdf in TT. TT will save the pdf in the folder your original TT tax file is located, it will have same name, just a different extension, pdf. Hope this works for you... I called TT yesterday, i never got passed the AI before I became so disgusted and hung up, that thing couldn't even understand my email address, so good luck with that.

Like you, I have used TT for over a decade, never any issues. I found something quite odd this year, when I installed the app and opened it did not have any updates. This is the first year without it having updates. Prior years every time you opened TT it had an update for you. Not this year. If feels like TT desktop is being neglected while they focus on this newer tax service they provide.

Intuit needs to let us know when they plan on fixing this printing issue. How come they have not acknowledged this issue with a projected fix date?

I have exactly the same problem using an HP printer that prints every other pdf or document - just not the Turbo Tax return.

Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts.  I do have the Adobe Acrobat application open always before I open Turbotax and before I try to trigger a print job.

Same issue - Unable to print taxes in Turbo Tax 2024.  This is a Turbo Tax issue. I purchased the key from Sams and downloaded software.  The software filed taxes without issue but unable print. My computer printer connection working just fine.

The only way many of us have been able to do it is to save a PDF from the file menu of the TY program (not via the print process) and print directly from the saved file without using TT.

This isn't a reply to your question--I don't know how to begin a new thread on this site.

My problem with TurboTax 2024  Premier is that the program will not register Vanguard brokerage capital gains distributions in my income summary or in the federal refund box on the top of the page.  So far I've:

1. Spoken with TurboTax personnel twice and, despite their efforts, the problem has not been resolved.

2. Uninstalled and reinstalled the program.

3. Tried again by creating a new return.

4. Imported the Vanguard 1099.

5. Deleted the import and manually entered the material from the appropriate Vanguard 1099 boxes.

Like others, I've been using Turbotax for over 15 years and I've never experienced anything like this.  TurboTax has time to fix this, but if it doesn't happen soon, I'll have to move on to another provider.

Any suggestions out there?

Same here. I've used TurboTax since it first came out -- decades. I have never had this problem with printing my return. I'm on a Mac desktop. I get the spinning wheel, the typical little window showing me that it's about to print, followed by a little 'boop' sound and ... nothing. It's so frustrating. TurboTax needs to get on this!

Similar problems here. Here's how I eventually got my 2024 Tax Return to print (Mac Desktop with TurboTax Desktop Version, HP printer)...

1) With TurboTax open on my desktop and on the Save For Your Records tab ...

2) I clicked on "File" from the TurboTax menu in the top menu bar ...

3) Then I chose "Preview" at the bottom of the "File" dropdown menu ...

4) Upon doing that, a new Preview window opened up.

5) Ensure that "2024 Federal Tax Return" is checked on the left hand side of the new window.

6) Choose which 2024 Tax Return forms you'd like to print. (I stuck with the default labeled "Recommended forms & worksheets."

7) Click on the blue "Preview" button in the lower right of that same window.

😎 Another new window will open up -- this one, at least on my computer, is a very tiny version of my entire 2024 Federal Tax Return.

9) Put your cursor over the tiny preview window (ie, over your mini-tax return). A small 4-item menu will appear (if it's not already there).

10) Click on the little icon to the left of the download arrow. (The download arrow on the far right of that 4-item menu did not function properly for me. It would not download the preview.) The icon you should click on looks like an ink bottle in front of a square piece of paper.

11) Now, a new window will open up in the "Preview" app. In my case, the new document that opened up had a strange document name with six letters and numbers followed by "-Unknown.pdf." I changed the document's name to my own choosing prior to taking the next step so that I could find my file after I saved it.

12) Now, from the Preview menu in the top menu bar, Click on "File."

13) Click on "Print" at the bottom of that "File" menu.

14) You will now be able to Save your TurboTax return as a PDF ... and/or ... you will be able to Print your TurboTax return.

15) Phew. That's a lot of work, TurboTax! You need to do better.

Yep, been using TurboTax premier for 20 years and this year, the first year they stop selling it on a CD ROM, I have the EXACT same issue with unable to print. Tried allowing pop ups and switched to Chrome but nothing works. Thanks Intuit for working so closely with Apple to integrate the software on the Mac….

While in TurboTax I went to top left corner of Mac and did what the earlier post said. I went to file create PDF and saved it to the folder and that worked. It’s pretty sad that into it has such a fault in the program. Also in response to an earlier post, I’m not sure that TurboTax picked up the capital gains distribution on Vanguard with the 1099. Into it is really causing a lot of anxiety for people this year, they should’ve stayed with a complete program on a CD ROM…
