Trying to amend 2017 federal. I got Error 190 so entered the 3 states I needed. Asking for $$ before changes! How do I change federal form & leave the states unamended?

I used SelfEmployed in 2017 so I think that's Deluxe - not sure.  I downloaded the one that's not home & business and my actual return.  Maybe that's it?  did I download the wrong Turbotax?

So I ended up calling the help center.  The experience is different from the online tool I've used for the past 8 years - short answer - yes you have to pay first even if you may not need to file amended state returns.  There's no way around it based on what we discovered together on the phone and using screen share.  The time it takes to run the software through each state's returns to see if anything needs changing is where the cost comes in.  For me it was $100 to attempt to amend federal and 3 states.

I have to file an amendment due to an issue with TurboTax and do not  feel like paying $44.99 . whom should contact to get this fee waived off?

This is rediculous!  TurboTax was already paid for the state used in the return when the initial return was filed, and now it is asking $45 a second time!  This is nothing short of ransomware if you ever need to amend your federal return.
