Online tax preparation for 2018 is now shut down, and you cannot start a new 2018 return online. Now you will need to use downloaded desktop software on a full PC or Mac. You will also have to print, sign and mail your 2018 return because e-filing is shut down for 2018. The deadline was midnight October 15, 2019.
If you are getting a tax refund there will be no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, you are subject to late filing penalties and interest, for which you will be billed by the IRS later.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS and/or your state received the return.
Online should be closed now to start a new 2018 return. Yesterday Oct 15 was the last day to efile. You need to buy the 2018 Desktop Download to do 2018 now. Currently it is still listed on this page,
