The IRS owes me money from an amended 2014 1040. How to I apply that against my 2016 tax due in TurboTax?

The IRS said they hadn't received my 2014 taxes. I finally proved to them I had and they show a refund due larger than what I owe for 2016. I'm ready to file for 2016 using TurboTax (extension submitted in March) and I want to offset what I owe with what they own me and show a refund on my return. I can't find where to put the 2014 amount owed to me into TurboTax.

To have the refund from your 2014 amended return applied to your 2016 tax, you have to indicate that on the Form 1040X that you filed for 2014. If you have already filed the Form 1040X amended return for 2014, it's too late to have the refund applied to 2016.

you still have a few weeks to file, so maybe your refund will arrive in time for you to send it back to the US Treasury for 2016.
