Taxes filed correctly, but attached wrong year w2 to mailed tax return?

I used TurboTax to put together my 2019 return, and all of the info is correct. I elected to print and mail the returns myself. The only problem is that I now realize that I attached my 2018 W2 instead of my 2019 W2 to both the Federal and State returns.

The info inside the returns is correct - just the attached W2 is from the wrong year.

What happens next, and how can I fix it?

Since your filed your tax returns correctly, hold off to see if you hear from the IRS or from your State Governing Body.  Your 2019 tax information is electronically submitted and matched up to your tax return so you may be okay.

I did the same thing.

I completed my 2020 taxes late and use the correct 2020 W2s.  But I mailed my tax returns and accidently attached my 2021 W2 forms.

Should I mail the 2020 W2s to the IRS with a note explaining my situations?

How did it turn out for you, ausp93?

Thank you for your time.

@delnarvaez Wait and see what the IRS does with your return.   They might send it back and ask for the correct W-2's----or they might not even notice.   Do not send the W-2's separately with a note, which could just lead to more confusion.  Sit tight and wait for them to process your return or to contact you.   It takes the IRS longer to open the mail and process mailed returns so do not expect anything to happen quickly.  It can easily take weeks or more.

Not yet.   Don't send in anything unless they specifically ask you for it.   Since your entered your correct 2021 W-2 data into TurboTax, they will probably process it as is.    Last I checked, they had a backlog of some ridiculous amount of paper documents, so hold tight and wait like xmasbaby0 recommended above!
