Still waiting for my 2019 tax return

I filed in Jan 2020. Mid Feb received a notice I need to verify my identity so I called in and did that. Then march I received a Cp05 letter with them asking to give them 45 days to verify more information. Then boom Covid hits. June 11th I call in (wait 50 minutes) and talk to someone who states that I have nothing pending on my account but that due to the lock down and them just reopening they are asking for additional 60 days. August 9th I call in again (waiting an hour this time) speak with someone who stated it was still a little to early to call in but that she also could not see any holds on my account and that they still technically have 3 days to deposit anything or I can call in to see what's going. August 12th rolls around no luck getting anything and I try calling several times after that with no luck getting ahold of anyone. Finally I get ahold of someone yesterday (again, after waiting an hour) and he tells me that there is nothing on my account holding things up but they are asking I wait another 60 days due to their back up. I honestly think I'll be filing my 2020 taxes before I get 2019's. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I get a tax advocate? With such a big back up due to covid would it even be worth it??

The IRS has a big backlog.

You could be right -- it may be 2021 before IRS gets around to your tax return.

I am curious if you are still waiting on your refund? How long did yours take? I am in the same situation and just been waiting it out.  Did you file your 2020 before receiving your 2019 refund?
