State Estimate payments changed back to mail -in instead of electronic payment

TurboTax say I must pay my estimates tax payment by electronic or incur a tax penalty with my state(calif).

All my previous years,  TurboTax been  by mail -in, why  they all suddenly tell me to pay by  electronic? Can I change that so that  it reflect to pay by mail in on Turbotax sothis wont happen angain next year too?

California requires electronic payments if you:

  • Make an estimated tax or extension payment over $20,000
  • File  a return with a tax liability over $80,000
  • Have been notified by the State of California that you must pay electronically based on prior years

If none of these conditions apply to your situation, you can just change your filing option back to pay by mail.

This is how to change that option in TurboTax:

  1. Log in and select State, then Prepare State.
  2. Click Edit to the right of California.
  3. Continue until you get to Need to Make Electronic Payments Based on a Prior Year?
  4. Answer No.
  5. Continue through the end of the return.
