Starting an Amended return and original numbers do not look right

I started an amended return and before entering anything, it is showing a Federal Refund of around $1,300 whereas it should show 0. When looking at the original numbers vs. the amended numbers, it shows items that do not correspond to my return even though it includes the actual original 1040 which does have the correct numbers. In column A of 1040-X, it says "Original amount reported or as previously adjusted (see instructions)". I am not aware of any change or why this would happen. How can I determine the reason for this odd change? Is this a bug in TT or should I contact the IRS about this?

Col A must show the amount on your original 1040 (or any changes by IRS).

If you can't get to that, don't file an incorrect 1040-X.

Note: many TurboTax users have posted this issue. I haven't seen any resolution.

Note: if you are using desktop version, you should be able to edit Column A.

"should I contact the IRS about this"

that's rather silly. IRS is not interested in TurboTax bugs that cause you trouble.

What I was to trying to determine was whether (a) this was a known bug or (b) there was something that I was missing that was not clear that someone else may have encountered previously.

It is a known problem.

TurboTax does not seem to be in any hurry to fix it.
