Some but not all information from my vanguard tax statement appears on my 1040 dividends but no 8949 property , now IRS cp2000 , what happened

Ordinary and qualified Dividends but no property appear on 8949 , IRS says cost basis was on return but proceeds was supposed to have been reported as it was for 2018 and2020  but is missing from 2019 ,

Did you fail to download the 1099-B for the sales from the broker ?    The import for the dividends and the import for the stock sales are handled in 2 different sections of the interview.

 

Amend the return to enter in the 1099-B information to populate the 8949 & Sch D to respond to the IRS notice.

are you sure? usually it is the other way around.

proceeds is reported but cost basis is not when the broker does not have that information.

The IRS may have some of the cost basis on file but the correct forms did not get filed ... complete them now and submit them as directed.
