Since filed with Turbotax, my tax returns were not processed

Hi,

I started using TT in 2019. I submitted my 2019 federal tax return on 3/7/2020 (was accepted by the IRS the same day). When checking the IRS transcript - I see that my 2019 tax return was not filed (I am marked as non-filer). Same thing happened with my 2020 submission.

Today, I received a CP80 notice, mentioning I have a credit (the same amount I paid for 2020 for the federal taxes I owned). Of course that the IRS is not responding - impossible to get ahold of them via phone.

What should I do to fix this?

For this matter, you will first need to reach out to the IRS directly to get steps on how to resolve this.

Here are some steps that may help you get through quicker:

IRS:  800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

  • First choose your language.  Then listen to each menu before making the selection.
  • Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."
  • It may then ask for your SSN, but do not enter it.  Just wait.    If it asks for SSN a second time, still do not enter it.
  • Then it will get "tired", and you'll get another menu.  Choose 2 for "personal".
  • Then in the next menu choose 4 for "all other inquiries", and it should transfer you to an agent but expect a long wait.
