Return

I filed my taxes with Turbo Tax in February of 2022.  I received notification that my taxes were accepted. I received a notice that my tax return would be taking longer than additional because I had to send in additional information. It's been 4 months, no return, and I can't a human response when I call the IRS, or turbo tax to see where the hold up is.  How can I get to someone who can answer my questions, and not the recorded voice that comes on.  That's annoying, and you owe your customers better than that.

@kusbitc

Four months is about the minimum you would have to wait for IRS to follow up on a request for information.

IRS has a huge backlog.

Only the IRS controls when and if a tax refund is Approved and Sent.

Call the IRS:  1-800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info).  Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."

- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.

- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.

Then press 4 for all other inquiries.

It should then transfer you to an agent.

Or you can contact your local IRS office.  See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area.  See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

TurboTax has no information about what is holding up the processing of your tax return. It's the IRS that is holding up your tax return, not TurboTax. TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS after your tax return has been accepted.

The IRS is severely backlogged and severely understaffed this year. They have a backlog of millions of tax returns that have not been processed yet. They don't have enough people to process all the tax returns, and they don't have enough people to answer all the phone calls. Any tax return that requires manual handling, as yours does, will have to wait many months to be processed. The IRS hopes to clear the backlog by the end of 2022.
