Maybe someone knows a workaround. I've pretty much concluded I'll have to mail in the returns with an explanation. This is what happened: I did my 19 y.o. daughters taxes but forgot to mark in TurboTax that she would be claimed as a dependent on my tax return. The return went through fine. A week later I file mine and get rejected because I can't claim someone if they didn't say on their tax return they could be claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return. OK, I amended my daughter's return, transmitted it, and got accepted. I mailed it as well. I waited a couple of days and transmitted mine again but no luck, rejected again for the same reason. Did it again a few days later and same result. I guess until my daughter's return gets updated somewhere will mine be accepted?
Since your daughter has her tax return filed and it was accepted by the IRS as not being a dependent, you will not be able to e-file your tax return. Even though you amended her return changing her dependency.
Unfortunately, you will have to print and mail your tax return for tax year 2021.
Yeah, I figured as much. You know what they say about advice, it's when you know the answer but wish you didn't.
If you already mailed it you are done. Don't try to efile it. You should only file 1 time.
