Received unemployment refund, but need to file amended return.

Hello, I received my refund for unemployment benefits. I need to file an amended return for dividends, but Turbo Tax is showing that I should also receive my unemployment refund even though it has been process.  Should I still file anyways?

NO ... first you must correct the return (NOT amend) so it reflects the changes the IRS made  and only then should you start the amendment process.

If you have not yet done anything log in and scroll down and click on ADD A STATE to open the return then make the needed changes so the refund you actually got is the same as it is on the corrected 1040.   Once that is accomplished then complete the FILE tab and pick to mail in the return.

Now you can click on the amendment option at the bottom of the home screen.

That is a bit of a tricky situation.  To make your amend correct, remove the first $10,200 of unemployment from your return along with the changes needed for dividends.  It is something that TurboTax has not adjusted, so you will need to do that adjustment yourself to make your return correct.

Please make sure you have a printout and a backup of your original return before you do any amend.
