We have 2 1098s, one for new house, one for old house home equity. The original 1098s showed ".00" in Box 2. Provider issued updated 1098s with the principal in Box 2. I completed my return based on the '.00' 1098. I started an amendment to my current return, but the change did not result in any impact to my tax due or return. Should I file the amendment? Or is this a minor deal?
I would not file the Amendment, it will just delay your return. If the IRS needs to verify any documents, they will send you a letter. Check the WMR website daily to see if they received or accepted your return. Good luck
I actually already received my refund. Everything was done and wrapped up a week or two ago. Then the mortgage provider sent corrected 1098s. Given that everything was already complete, still don't file amendment?
lstewart0312 is correct. You don't have to file an amended income tax return because the corrected 1098 Mortgage Interest forms don't change your refund.
