Unless a mistake was made I sent it in. I worked a dead end fast food job, barely made minimum wage and as I recall when filling it out myself I didn't get any money back but I didn't owe any either. Now all of a sudden I owe nearly $900. I can't wrap my head around be young, working a crap job with crap pay and somehow owe money. I'm panicking and don't understand a thing. Please help.
The Examiner's Report (EDA-131), is a detailed notification of the proposed changes made to your Illinois Income Tax Return. The information in this report should be compared to your federal and state tax records for accuracy. If you agree to the proposed tax due or to claim the proposed refund, sign this document and return it to the IDOR. If you disagree, see below.
If you do not agree with the information on the Examiner's Report, then you should follow the directions provided on the included Notice to respond. You must support your claim with your tax records and include any required support for your changes.
we don't know what the notice says, so you would have to provide more info. maybe we can help. We have no way of knowing if Illinois is correct. first you should review or obtain a copy or transcript of your IRS 2018 return. if the IRS found things omitted from your return, they would notify Illinois. this would probably require filing 4506-T since an online transcript for that year is probably not available.

it would seem that the state says you actually owes taxes that were not paid. penalties and interest for over 6 years comes to that $900
