Received a receipt that my taxes were filed but was never asked where to send my refund. No refund to this date. Filed on April 15,2025.

I had a order confirmation.

This first comment will be how to be sure your return was successfully filed.   Then I'll provide another comment on how to find your refund choice.

Since your refund has been taking so long, you first need to be sure the return was successfully filed and accepted (if efiled.) It depends on how you chose to file the return.

If you filed a paper return by mail, TurboTax does not mail it for you.  If you chose that method, you would have had to print it, sign it, date it, and mail it yourself.  It takes at least 4 weeks for a mailed return to show up in the IRS WMR tool.

If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home.   What word is used there for the status:  accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else?

If the Tax Home showed it was accepted, (or if you mailed a paper return), you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.   Is there any message there?   Has the IRS finished processing the return and released the refund, or is it still being processed?

Here are some tips when using that IRS tool:

  • Be sure you enter the correct tax year, SSN, and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a summary screen.
  • Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount to use in the tool, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.

You can review your refund choice by getting the full PDF of your return using the steps below.   Then if you review the page called "Federal Tax Return Summary" and a page called "Filing Instructions",  you can hopefully see how your refund is being handled.

NOTE:  Most people have it sent directly from the IRS to their bank account (or card).  However, If you chose to pay the TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, the funds will go first from the IRS to an intermediary bank account where the fees are subtracted.  Then that intermediary bank sends the rest to your own bank in a second direct deposit..    If you used that option, and if the IRS has sent the refund, we can tell you how to check on it at the level of that third-party company (SBTPG aka Santa Barbara Tax Products Group.)    Another option that some people chose was to have the refund go to a Credit Karma Moneyspend account; I believe this is more common if one chose the "up to 5 days early" refund offer, although people could elect for the "up to 5 days early" refund option to be sent to one's own bank account for a fee.

Note:  When you open your return interview back up, do NOT make any changes in it.  If you later have to amend the return for some reason, it has to start off exactly as filed.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax, or if you're already signed in, select Tax Home.
  2. At the Tax Home look for the link "Add a State", or if that link isn't visible, scroll down to and open Your tax returns & documents, select 2024 and then look for the link Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just opens the 2024 return back up to get you into the right area).
  3. When the return interview is open, go to the left column menu, select the tab Tax tools, and then select Print Center.
  4. Select Print, save or preview this year’s return.
  5. Select 2024 returns and then for the most pages choose Include government and TurboTax worksheets.
  6. Select View or Print.  (or you can choose to download the PDF if you want to save a copy)
  7. Usually the first page in the PDF is your Federal Tax Return Summary. On that page, in the first section, you'll see some refund information, such as (if applicable) the bank account info that was entered for your direct deposit.   Also look for the page "Filing Instructions" which should also info on how your refund is being handled.
  8. While you are in the Print Center, if you wish to do so, you can download a PDF copy of the Federal and state returns and worksheets, if desired, for your records.   See caution note below.

NOTE:
Remember all PDF tax documents, printed copies, and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.
