Typical refunds take about 21 days, only your state Department of Revenue or the IRS has your refund information. When your tax return is accepted by the IRS you can get a pretty good idea of when you will receive your tax refund from the IRS based on acceptance date in the chart with the article link provided below, but please remember these are only estimates:  https://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/tax-compliance/news/21123770/chart-shows-estimated-irs-income-tax-refund-dates-for-2020Check your refund status here.

When the IRS finishes processing your tax return and confirms your tax refund is approved, your status will change to “Refund Approved.” The IRS will then provide the personalized refund date, this process can take a few days, it will even provide a "Refund Sent" date once that status is reached. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information.

Now, if you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) you may have a delay.

Please see this TurboTax FAQSome 2019 federal refunds are delayed due to the PATH Act for more information.

To check on a state refund please visit your state Department of Revenue website.

You may contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, please see this website article from the IRS on contact hours and information you will need to have ready when calling them: https://www.irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance.

This is normal. TurboTax updates what stage your return is in and the IRS site updates when you can expect your refund:

  • E-filing status is what stage of the process your return is in.
  • Refund status is when you can expect you refund.

Once your tax return has been submitted, the most up to date information will come from the IRS.

It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks to update. Until the IRS starts processing it on their own, you may not find record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated accordingly. Continue checking the Where’s My Federal Refund?  tool for updates.

Please see below for more information on what accepted means:

Please see the information below on dates and more information about refunds. Returns filed with the CTC tax credit may take a little longer to process:
