prior year taxes

Can't reach the IRS.  Does anyone know how long you should wait before submitting a second copy of your mailed in tax return for processing.  2019 was submitted in July of last year then I mailed an amendment in november and neither one has been processed.  I'm thinking it may be lost in the mail.

That is why mail should always be with a tracking service or certified mail with return receipt.  That is your only proof of receipt.

However, amending before the first was fully processed and you received any refund due was a great mistake.  Having two returns in the system at the same time red-flags them both for hand processing. And with the COVID backlog that can take a year or  more.     Adding a 3rd return can compound the delay.
