Our daughter inadvertently claimed herself independent. I helped her amend and fix her return. We then tried to e-file and claim her but our return was rejected.

You cannot e-file this year.   Since your daughter used her SSN and originally said she could not be claimed, even if her return has now been amended, the amended return will never catch up in the system.  It takes 4-6 months for the IRS to process an amended return.  You have no hope of e-filing this time.  Your return has to be printed, signed and mailed.   Sorry.   This is a common mistake made by young inexperienced kids who mess things up for their parents by filing incorrectly.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
