No record of efile receipt from IRS

My federal return indicates it was accepted on 4-16-21 and I still haven’t received my refund.  The IRS recommends waiting for at least 21 days.  I waited that period and when I check the where’s my refund area of IRS.gov or by calling, the IRS says there is no record of receipt and no data is provided.  Any suggestions, because this is getting ridiculous.

The IRS "21-day" goal for processing returns does not apply this year - they are much further behind in their work this year because of COVID-related changes in the tax code and their own COVID-related workplace and workforce issues.

A whole lot of people are experiencing the same issue - many are waiting as long as 10 to 12 weeks for their refunds

If you filed your 2020 taxes and haven't received your refund, your experience is very common -  the IRS is encountering major delays in processing 2020 tax returns, and is almost impossible to reach by phone.

The IRS Where’s My Refund? site is still the best first place to go for information.

Hi Todd,

I submitted my refund around 3/29/2021 and I also don't see record of my amended tax return when I try to check my refund status on the IRS website. You said that many people are waiting as long as 10-12 weeks for their refunds. It's been almost five months for me. Is this still normal?

Edit: I realized that other people on this forum are having this similar issue. I guess we can expect it to take 6+ months?

If you filed the amended return after the original return was fully processed  then the amended return could take 6 months or much longer to process this year.   If you filed the amended return before the original was processed then the processing time doesn't start until the original return is completed including any corrections being made by the IRS for the last minute tax law changes.
