New york state diabilility & Paid family leave during maternity leave

I work in New york & stay in Nj. I recieved sdi for maternity leave and then pfl after from my NY based employer insurance. I recieved a 1099-MISC for my pfl but nothing for my sdi. Is SDI or PFL taxed at Fed / NY / NJ level? If yes, what type of income is it considered?

Neither short-term disability nor Paid Family leave are taxable in New Jersey, but both are taxable in New York and at the federal level. Your NY SDI is reported on your W-2, box 14, labeled NYSDI.

Since NY issued you a 1099-MISC for your PFL, report it in the 1099-MISC section of TurboTax. As you proceed through the program, check that none of the uncommon situations apply, that the payment doesn't involve work like your main job, that you got it in 2024, and that it didn't involve an intent to earn money.

This will report the income as "Other Income" on your 1040.
