Need help with CP162 notice

used turbo tax business to efile our S corp taxes for January through March 2017.  the form was accepted by the IRS in February 2018.  the business closed after that quarter.  I thought s corp was due on 3/15/2018 but notice from irs says we were late filing with a $1755 penalty.

Did you file a short year?

Generally, an S corporation must file Form 1120S by the 15th day of the 3rd month after the end of its tax year. For 2017 calendar year corporations, the due date is March 15, 2018.

A corporation that has dissolved must generally file by the 15th day of the 3rd month after the date it dissolved.

Oh my, I had no idea.  Yes we filed just that quarter.  Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.  Hoping maybe IRS will waive it, do you think I have a chance?

It never hurts to ask and if you've never asked them to waive a penalty before, this would be a perfect time to do so!

I have exactly the same situation for 2019 for my S-Corp.  Did you have any success with your waiver request?  Thanks.

I am facing the same issue now, almost $4000!

I am going to cry...

let me try with IRS if they can "forgive" some.

@apple-Sweet-z It's worth a try, though!
