You wouldn't have to wait at all after you receive your corrected W-2, as long as you haven't filed yet.

I tried to file and it didn't allow me

That's actually good news, because now you can file your return with the correct social on your W-2.

On your W-2? Have you tried deleting that W-2 and entering it from scratch?

I would try deleting that and starting the W-2 over. Was your return rejected by the IRS, or did you not get that far?

I haven't gotten that far yet

should I continue and if I get denied then delete and start over?

You could try that.
Are you talking about your EMPLOYER's EIN rather than your Social Security Number?

You can get phone assistance if you upgrade to PLUS.

Go to Help at the top of your screen while you are in the program. Then Click on Contact us (at the bottom of your screen), then  describe your problem and choose a way to contact us and continue through the prompts.

If you don't want to do that, and you can't fix your W-2 issue, you can still file by printing out your return and mailing it.

is there an alternate way to get you on the phone without getting plus

You can't clear and start over if you've already registered your return. Did you originally import your W-2?

I manually did

but didn't finalize it

could it be its not working properly because my employer hasn't sent the corrected form or paperwork to the irs yet?

No, I don't think so. I'm going to make one last suggestion. Delete the W-2. Then go to the left side of your screen and choose Tools. Then choose Delete A Form. Then, on the list of forms, delete every W-2 you see. I'm going to put screen shots in the answer up above to show you what I mean. Then re-enter your W-2 and try to file.
