My Tax return rejected because my daughter said she cannot be claimed as a dependent, I tried to amend her return but the 1040x does not let me change her status. Help!

How can I amend her return and change her status so that I can file mine?

Your daughter's return can be amended to say that she can be claimed as a dependent by changing her answer to the question in My Info that asks if she can be claimed.   However, you cannot e-file this year.   Her amended return will take at least six months to be processed and it will not catch up in the system for you to e-file your own return that claims her.   Your return has to be filed by mail.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

And you don't have to wait for her return to be processed to file your return since you have to print and mail your return.  Even if she  amends it won't clear her ssn from the IRS.
