You may have e-filed your federal return but it has not been "accepted."  You will not be able to e-file your state return until all of your forms are finalized and your federal has been accepted.

The IRS is not accepting returns until January 29, 2018.  Until then any returns that have been e-filed are just sitting on a server, waiting.  You will not hear anything about whether your return is accepted or rejected until then.  Meanwhile, do not change ANYTHING on your return, even if you find a mistake or get another W-2, etc

You may be aware that in late December Congress passed a major tax reform bill.  That has the IRS scrambling to get tax return forms ready for this tax filing season.  They were waiting for the laws to pass.

Some forms are not finalized so you cannot file.  The IRS has to finalize a number of forms and then approve the finalized forms in the TT software.  Many state forms are not finalized either.  No reason to be in a rush.  The IRS will not be accepting returns until January 29 at the earliest, so filing early will not get you a faster refund.  The earliest refunds will not be released until mid to late February.  You just have to wait for the forms to be ready.

We are trying to figure out why it is saying accepted.  Exactly where?  Can you attach a screen shot of where it says accepted?  You can Edit your question above to add it.

I'm experiencing the same issue - the Federal return was submitted and accepted but my state shows as started and there is no option for doing anything with it

Also no one every answered my question! The federal got accepted on 17th and I e-filed for Federal and State (Vermont with no other states I worked in). The questions I need answered is weather my states taxes are not complete? Or if it means that state e-file is started? Finally if it means the latter, do i need to do something to complete the state e-file?

OK, This is what I did - I went in to my return and selected "Add a State" (I did not add a state) - after doing that I could see the option on the left and was able to go to my state return and complete it :))  Quite odd, but worked for me.
