The reason for audit is they need additional info to solve the issue. They are asking for all forms W-2,1099, Schedule K-1, Schedule 3K-1, PWH and 2G forms IF RELATED TO WITHOLDING AMOUNT CLAIMED ON MY RETURN.
Respond by sending them any forms that show tax withheld. The tax withheld on these forms should match the line on your state return for tax already paid or tax withheld. The state or the IRS sometimes does not receive the copies of all these forms that they are supposed to get, but they can't tell which one they're missing until you send them your copies.
So send them what they are asking for....look at your forms that were used to prepare the return and send them any that show federal withholding on them.

I did not realize the state would not have received the 1099R that the amount they are questioning . I can’t believe it was that simple.
It usually is just that simple. Either the form they received was garbled or torn or, if transmitted electronically somehow went astray and or was not readable when received.
The withholding amount the state was questioning was the exact amount of the state tax that was witheld on my 1099R and I claimed on my tax return.
Then they just need to see your form and you don't need to worry about it.
