My husband and I filed our taxes "Married Filing Jointly" as two separate returns as we didn't see an option to enter the other person's W2 information. I contacted Turbo Tax as my return was rejected because of this (his was accepted) to find out what to do. The rep told me to file "Married Filing Separately" which was then also rejected for the same reason, even though this is what Turbo Tax advised.
Do I need to wait until his return is processed and file an amendment? Or is there another solution?
If your spouse filed jointly, then you cannot file a separate return.
What you will need to do is wait until your return is processed to see if the IRS catches the mistake. If they do, they will send you a letter tell you that you left your W-2 off of the return and make the adjustments for you. If they do not catch the mistake, then you will need to wait until the amended forms are available and add your W-2 to the amended return. The amended forms are expected to be available in mid -February.
