My return status is "Ready to mail". I have not mailed and need to make changes. How do I re-open the return?

Sign onto your online account using this TurboTax website, if not already signed on - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you land on the Welcome Home screen click on My TurboTax at the top left of the program screen.  This will take you to the 2016 Timeline.  Under the section Some things you can do:  Click on Add a state (you will not actually be adding a state).  This will take you to the 2016 online tax return to make any additions or changes.

When completed go to the File section and go through all 3 steps in their entirety to either e-file or print the return for mailing.

I am trying this approach but before starting it tells me to get ready to amend. I am not actually amending since I have not mailed my taxes. Could I still e-file (even if I initially chose the option of mailing it)?
