My parents already claimed me and didn't notify me. They already collected all of my federal taxes. How can I collect just my state taxes?

IRS rejected my 8863 form as that was what was already claimed by my parents as I am a dependent

If you CAN be claimed as a dependent your parents do not need your permission to claim you.   And the refund they got was not "your" refund.  If you can be claimed as a dependent then your parents are the ones who can get the education credits.  They can claim you on their federal and state returns if you meet the criteria to be a qualifying child or qualifying relative.   Do you meet the criteria?

WHO CAN I CLAIM AS A DEPENDENT?

You can claim a child, relative, friend, fiance (etc.) as a dependent on your 2020 taxes as long as they meet the following requirements:

Qualifying child

•They are related to you.

•They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

•They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or   Mexican resident.

•They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.

•They are under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students).

    • No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children

They live with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply).

Qualifying relative

•They don't have to be related to you (despite the name).

•They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

•They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.

•They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.

They lived with you the entire year.

•They made less than $4300  (not counting Social Security)

•You provided more than half of their financial support. More info

When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them.

If you can be claimed as a dependent you  can still file your own tax return to seek a refund of tax that was withheld from your paychecks.   But on your own return, you must say that you can be claimed as someone else's dependent.  That question will be asked in My Info.

change your exemption to "Someone can claim me"

then you will be able to e-File and your state return as well.

How do I state that someone can claim me in Myinfo?  I am not getting prompted that question.

As you walk through the personal info section it is under Do any of These Apply?  Then you select Another taxpayer can claim me.
