My mortgage company is asking for confirmation of e-file for federal taxes that is more than the email that says "accepted". Any ideas?

I have already given them the email and the tax return.

Here are three ideas.

  • Ask the mortgage company what kind of confirmation they got from other borrowers who filed their own tax returns using do-it-yourself tax software such as TurboTax.
  • Give them the Electronic Postmark page that is at the end of the federal tax return in the PDF of your tax return.
  • A Tax Account Transcript from the IRS will show that the return was filed, and the date it was filed. To get a transcript go to Get Transcript on the IRS web site. You want a Tax Account Transcript, not a Tax Return Transcript.

My tax printout doesn't seem to have the "postmark" page. I'll start researching what to do about that. Thank you.

Create a new PDF, with all the worksheets, to make sure your PDF is up-to-date.

First, make sure you are signing in to the same account that you used to file your tax return. People often have more than one TurboTax account without realizing it. Follow the instructions in the FAQ at the link below to get a list of all your accounts. If you have more than one email address, do it for each address. Before you start this procedure, make sure you are signed out of all your accounts, including the one you are using here in the Community. You can access the FAQ without being signed in.

How many Intuit accounts do I have with TurboTax?

When you are signed in to the correct account, on the Tax Home page or in the section Your Tax Returns & Documents for 2021, look for a link "Add a State." You might have to scroll down to see it. Click on Add a State. You are not going to actually add a state. This is just a trick to open the return that you filed.

  • After the return is open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER.
  • Then choose Print, Save or view this year's return.
  • On the next screen select the option "Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional)."

(Thanks to user VolvoGirl and Champion DoninGA for these instructions.)

In the PDF, the Electronic Postmark Report will be near the end of the federal tax return, before any state tax returns.
