For a unpaid student loan?  Did you owe this debt?

Yes i do owe the debt. My wages have been being garnished and I have been working with the debt collector and making payments so I thought my taxes would be safe.

No. Funds offset through the US Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service are transferred to the US Department of Education and applied to reduce your student loan balance.

If you are having a Treasury offset applied against your tax refund, your student loans must already be in a default status. You can still work out a plan to cure the default and stop future Treasury offsets, but that must be done directly with the US Department of Education.

I have called that number for days and have sat on hold for ever and every time my call gets dropped. It is so frustrating!
