My husband and I are in the progress of building. While we wait, we are living with his grandparents. The current address on our ID’s, W-2 forms, etc.. is where our house

is being built, but we don’t live there yet. We thought we’d be moved in by now but that didn’t happen. His grandparents are not claiming us as dependents on their return. But will the different addresses be a problem? Like I said, per all of the legal paperwork, we live at the construction site. We just don’t actually live there yet and will not be there before 2023 ends. How should we handle this?

Just use the address where you would want to receive mail until your house is built.

The address you enter on your tax return will no be a problem with the IRS.  You should enter the address where the IRS can contact you by mail if ever required.

When you do move to your permanent address you can submit a change of address with the IRS.

Go to this IRS website for address changes - https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/address-changes
