My federal tax return status is set to being reviewed to protect against "Identity theft" when checking the IRS tax tracker. They are asking for verificationbutdontsayhow

My refund status is "To protect you from identity theft, your tax return is currently being reviewed. To help us process your return more quickly, please verify your identity and tax return information. blahblahblah" it never said that to me before? Is it being delayed? It doesn't say how to verify. Does anybody have an idea?

Follow the instructions in the letter.

Dang. Wow. You know, I never considered doing that before. Thanks man. All my problems are solved now. Thanks to you illuminating comment. Lol

Update: I have not received a letter. But logging into the irs website let me attempt to verify my identity through the ID.me service. Did all that and was then asked for a code from a letter they supposedly sent so I'll wait for that I guess.

Why are they doing that for the first time to me ever? All of a sudden? More than a decades worth of tax calendar years under my belt they never delayed it like this for my "security." perhaps someone with a helpful answer

The IRS has a program of randomly selecting returns to evaluate the possibility of identity theft.
