For my 2023 tax return, I claimed my 3 kids, but only gave me total of $1500 for all 3. When I was reviewing this with a TurboTax live agent today, she admitted that there was an issue with the tool and asked me to delete and re-add my kids under my profile. After re-adding my kids, the child tax credit went up to $6000 for 3 kids. I would like to amend my return to recover the $4500 that I didn't claim, but TurboTax is advising me that I need to amend and pay for the process when it was Turbotax's tool that was at fault.
There is no charge to amend a tax return that you prepared using TurboTax unless the change you are making requires the use of a higher version of the software---and then it charges the difference between the version you used and the version you need to upgrade to. So....not sure what entering SSN's has to do with an upcharge. Are you changing something else, too?
When you are in MY INFO
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment. If your child was born in 2023 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
Are you using a Form 1040X to amend correctly?
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
You can watch for information here:

If you do not use a different version of TurboTax, there is no charge to amend your return. See the link below for how to amend your return.
