You mean you already paid for your software?   Yes---paying your fees did not file your tax return.   It will not even be possible to e-file until sometime in January 2025.    You can still go back into the software to add information as needed.  Employers have until the end of January to issue W-2's.

@spendelowj

You didn't indicate whether you paid for the "Online" browser based software...or the "Desktop" software that must be installed and run on your computer.

If you paid for the "Desktop/Downlaod software...do not make the mistake of using the "Online" software.....payment for those is entirely different and not transferrable.

1)  If you went ahead and Paid for the "Online" Browser based software...then yes...you just keep on adding all your income sources (W-2, Interest, Dividends, etc) until it's all prepared for Filing.  Do NOT actually go thru the filing steps until everything is entered, all income, credits and deductions.   You may get charged more if you didn't pay for the "State" software yet....if your state has an income tax.  And if you have to upgrade to a higher version, due to some of the stuff you need to enter, there would be an extra charge for that upgrade too.

2)  If, instead, you paid for, and are using the "Desktop/Downlaod" software...then yes it's paid for e-filing up to 5 Federal tax returns from your computer (like for family members), but e-filing any state tax returns will be charged another $25 each, when e-filed (except NY).  You just keep entering/editing everything until it's all prepared.  Do NOT file before everything for 2024 has been entered. IF you paid for the Deluxe or higher versions (not Basic), you get one free state download, but e-filing the state will be an extra $25  (except for NY).

IF you have any investment accounts at brokerages/mutual funds......those do not issue their forms until mid-late February....so don't rush filing....coming back later to Amend for things you missed, that can end up being a giant mess.
