my amended returns say I owe money because they are assuming I have already received the refunds on my original returns, How can I resolve this?

I had to add a w2 to my state and federal tax return. Now it says I owe money but they are assuming I have already received the original refund amount

This is the correct way to prepare an amended return- you will compute the difference between the tax liability on the original return and the amended return and if the tax liability increases, then you'll have a payment to make with the amended return.

Before amending, you should wait until the original return is fully processed, including receiving your refund.

You can assume you will get it because 1040 and 1040-X are processed separately.

That may not work out for you if IRS computers make changes to your original filing.

You can view the process of your returns by viewing your account transcripts.  This will show if your original return has processed and a refund has been issued.  You should wait to amend your return until the original has been processed and the refund received.  See the link below for the IRS transcript site.

You don't need an Online account or a transcript to check your refund status

If you are waiting you don't have to check anything because your refund will arrive.

It is recommended to setup Online account with ID.me now before IRS situation deteriorates.

You can then also opt in to IP PIN for safety.
