Mother's Tax Form

I filed my deceased mother's tax form and the IRS received it June 30, 2021, per UPS tracking.  I have not heard back regarding her refund.  I used TurboTax but had to submit the forms manually because she was deceased.  I cannot get help from the IRS.  Every number I try sends me to the same recording where I put in my mom's ss#, etc. and I get the same answer back on each of the recordings:  No record of this filing.  What can I do?  I have not found a way to speak to someone at the IRS and I am desperate.  She is due a refund and we cannot close her estate until we receive the IRS refund.  Any suggestions?

So sorry for your loss.   The IRS has been taking a very long time to process any mailed returns, and your was mailed at the end of June.   We are hearing from lots of people who have been waiting longer, unfortunately.   So it just might be the backlog holding it up---sorry.   TurboTax cannot find out anything for you.   All you can do is keep trying to contact the IRS.   You know they received it and it should be processed eventually.

To call the IRS:IRS:  800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri

Listen to each menu before making the selection.

First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

Then do NOT choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."  It should then transfer you to an agent.

TAX ADVOCATE

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your area's IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

Your situation is not unusual - not in the least.

There are delays, in general, with respect to processing returns but the delays are even more severe in the case of final returns for decedents with Form 1310. I happen to know a few taxpayers who filed final rerturns, along with Form 1310, and do not have refunds from the 2019 tax year.
