Make payment on IRS website before I mail my amended 1040x?

Is it okay that I make the payment I owed on IRS website before I mail 1040X out? Trying to reduce the potential penalty and also not feeling comfortable with mailing a check along with 1040X. Thx

Is there some reason you don't trust the IRS "Make a Payment" page ?
