Just knew today from irs that the limit for direct deposit is $10k. Why Turbotax allowed me to request direct deposit in the first place?

There should have been a warning or something if the refund amount is more than 10k

If there was an issue with your direct deposit, the IRS will mail a check instead.

This IRS FAQ page will also provide more details.

No that did not answer my question/ complaint:

Even if there is no issue, there is a $10k limit regardless.

Your software should have warned me when filing or prevented me from choosing direct deposit. Or maybe your software did not know about this.

Anyway, is there anything to do now to cancel the check and split the refund into two payments each less than 10k?

Where are you seeing that there is a limit on the direct deposit amount by the IRS?  Can you provide a website link?

Nothing on the irs.gov website or web search shows that there is any dollar limitation on a Single direct deposit for a tax refund.

I knew about the limit when I called IRS to complain about not receiving my refund. They told me that they sent the refund by mail because the amount is more than $10k.

If there is no Official IRS limit on the amount of a tax refund that can be direct deposited then there is no way that TurboTax can tell you if the refund will be converted to a check by the IRS.  A comment by an IRS agent does not make that the official IRS policy.
