Just got a paper check in the mail.. it doesn't show the amount?

I'm not sure why I got a paper check. I was expecting $640 back from 2018 via direct deposit..

It says $******56*74 where the amount is?

So do you mean the check is in the amount of $56.74 ?

Was the check sent by the IRS?  Does it say United States Treasury on it?  Or did it come from your state?

If the IRS or state reduced your refund they will send you a letter of explanation in a few weeks.  TurboTax receives no information regarding changes made to your refund by the IRS or state.  Did you owe back taxes, child support, student loan debt...?

Hi xmasbaby0,

I looked online and compared it and it has all the markings of a real IRS check. No child support.. unless the IRS takes out penalties for filing late straight out of the refund?

I'll wait for an explanation letter in the mail.. (curious why it wouldn't just come with the check?)

Does it say anything else on the check?  Like Tax year or TY2018 like near the bottom?  Did you get a Stimulus Check?  Maybe it's for that.   Or a small amount like that could be for interest they are paying you.  I would call the IRS if you can get through.
