The dates for receiving a tax refund after it has been accepted by the IRS are only estimates based on the IRS target of issuing a tax refund after 21 days from the date it was accepted by the IRS. This is a target only and not a guarantee.
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
At least y'all guys getting bars I can't get crap it keep saying can't give you no information must wait 24 hours I filed 2/2 n was accepted the same day
Try calling the irs refund hotline. For awhile mine also was not showing up on the wheres my refund website. But if I called the hotline it would give me the info.
The bars on my refund status have disappeared. It’s been nearly a month for me and my refund is still processing. I tried calling the irs but for some reason I can’t get ahold to anybody.
I called this morning n got thru I have a letter on the way they didn't say what's it is bout that my refund would take another 45 days
Yeah I keep expecting the website to update but I guess I'm calling the IRS in the morning. I just really hope I dont have to wait another 45 days for my refund.
I filed 1/30 accepted immediately bars disappeared to still processing last two weeks irs nothing updating. No letter in the mail. No take action and I can’t get a live agent...taxpayers advocate sounds like tomorrow agenda? Frustrating
I called because of this issue, followed the prompts above and got someone on the phone. The guy was a complete asshole. He told me a letter was mailed Feb 8th. I said, ok that was 20 days ago. Since I haven't gotten it is there anyway to send another or verify myself another way? He said no,I have to have the letter which has information to use when calling to verify my identity and it will take 45 days for them to process my refund.
SEHILL0912 follow the prompts above. I did and was able to get a live agent. He was a douchebag but I found out that my return is "under review". There's a letter mailed and you have to call once you receive it to verify your identity. And it will take 45 days for them to process your return.
I'm still waiting. The irs says 8wks it's running through the system. Whatever that means
I'm waiting for letter. I have no idea what the letter is, but agent said it will be mailed mid to end of March. I really need my refund, but after reading through all the responses I'm not confident that I'll get my refund this year.
I've never had any problems with my taxes in all the decades I've been working and filling.
I'm really quite depressed about this.
I’ll never allow someone to file for me again! I usually do my own taxes and get a refund within 21 days. This year I filed on Feb the 4th it’s the 6th of March. I’ve checked the irs site to no avail. It’s still being processed. I’ve called these skeezas and still haven’t spoken to anyone live because of the high volume of callers. This is wild
I did, at the very least, get to talk to an agent, but it wasn't helpful in any way.
I filled and was accepted 2/17. Bars and tax topic 152 went away 3/1. No EITC or ACTC. I’m stuck in “still processing” limbo and no one on phone will talk to me yet Bc I’m still within the 21 day window. I’m calling ASAP on Monday. This is ridiculous. Never waited this long. Got my state early last week.
I'm on the phone with the advocate and they are putting a case together for me
@luckyme2t did you get a letter from IRS?
I was told I have to wait for letter. Mine was accepted since 1/28. After first week it went to code 1541. I called and agent said letter will be sent middle to end of March. Then 1541 code went away WMR went back to saying my return was being processed, but no bars. Still haven't gotten my state refund either (NJ). I've worked for 43 years always filed my returns, I've never had a problem in all those years. I'll give it another week for letter and then I'll contact a tax advocate. I'm almost 60 so maybe I can get "senior adult" help?
I hope they can help you. This is such a tough time for everyone
Filed 1-30
Accepted 1-30
21 days go by
Called IRS 2-27
Faxed 1095 and 8962 on 3-1
Refund amount disappears and tax topic 152 shows on 3-9.
As of right now they say I have to wait 6-8 weeks for my refund and I also have to amend my return on TurboTax whenever amending becomes available. This process is complicated.
@rjt10k Why did they ask you to fax all of that information? Did they send you a letter?
I filed 2/6 and accepted right away, 21 days later no refund. called irs they state its on hold and thye need more info. letter was suppose to be sent out but still no letter. frustrating.
I got my CP05 letter dated 3/11. It says I don't need to take action and that they are reviewing my return and that they will either send a refund or another letter on April 25th. which is 45 days from my first letter. I guess it's time to try to talk to a tax advocate. :(
