It says I qualify for the stimulus since I didn't receive it. Is that a separate deposit or included in federal?

If you are eligible for the stimulus payments and did not receive them, you can claim them as the Recovery Rebate credit on your 2020 tax return. The Recovery Rebate credit will be added to your Federal refund. You will not receive a separate deposit for it.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
  4. Follow the interview
  5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.

I guess that I find this just to hard to believe!?  I just got the same message from TurboTax: "Great news! You qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit."  Basically, my combined adjusted gross income was below a threshold and neither me or my wife received a first or second-round stimulus payment.  The only reason our gross is below this threshold is that we both retired early last year.  We don't need the money and never asked for it.  Are we really getting it or is there a mistake?  TIA.

It's not a mistake.  If your income is below the threshold and you completed the Recovery Rebate Credit worksheet in TurboTax, then you are eligible to receive the payments.

  • An individual with an AGI of up to $75,000 would receive the full $600 check; a couple filing jointly (or someone whose spouse died in 2020) with an AGI of up to $150,000 would receive $1,200 ($600 per eligible person). EIP: What you need to know

IRS Recovery Rebate Credit

In TurboTax Online once your return is open, select Wages & Income (to enter the tax return).

Select Federal Review at the top of the page > Continue to answer the questions for Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount

TurboTax will then include any stimulus amount due on their 1040 form - either added to their refund or it will reduce the amount due.
